ONITSHA—All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA yesterday warned the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, against further postponement of the 2015 elections in the country.

APGA’s campaign Organization for Anambra State Elections, insisted that INEC should address all the grey areas that needed to be put in place for a credible, free and fair election, as well as  smooth and peaceful transition from civilian to civilian on May 29.

Director-General of the Organization in Anambra State, Senator Alphonsus Ubanesse Igbeke, in a statement, said security challenges in some parts of the country and inadequacies on the part of INEC, as adduced could be enough reason to postpone the election from February to March and April but would no longer be enough reason for another postponement.

He urged INEC to do its home work properly to suit the new dates when all the necessary arrangements would have been properly put place for the polls, contending that security agencies should on their own part tidy up their operations in the North-East before then to enable elections take place in that region.

Absorbing Jega  of any blame in shifting the polls, Igbeke said “Had Professor Jega insisted on the earlier dates and bombs rained down at the polls and killed people, as a result of inadequate security, the same people pummeling him for shifting the polls would be the first to mount the rooftop and blame him for not heeding the advice of the security chiefs. The shift in date of the election is solely the decision of INEC and we should commend them for showing courage by admitting the obvious fact that they are not ready to go ahead with the February date.”
