BENIN CITY—THE Benin National Congress, BNC, a Benin socio-cultural organization, has urged the students of the university of Benin, UNIBEN, not to allow themselves to be used by politicians so as to avoid unnecessary mayhem in Edo State.
The BNC in a statement signed by Dr. David Ekomwenrenren, noted that the disagreement between the university and the state government was a legal matter which had been hijacked by selfish politicians “who have lost out in the state.”
The statement reads in part: “As a community-based organization comprising of parents and guardians, we wish to place on record that the resort to rampage by students over the face off between UNIBEN and Edo State Government is most unfortunate and a huge set back in our collective desire for a peaceful and conducive environment for teaching, leaning and business.
“Violent protest is alien to Edo people because of our deep cultural affinity, and the scenario where students and politicians allegedly meet to plan protest leaves much to be desired of our so called leaders of tomorrow.”
