Lagos—A Lagos-based property developer, Femi Bakare and the Okunu Eleku family of Oko-Olomi community in Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area, have called on the Inspector General of Police and Assistant Inspector General of Police Zone 2, to investigate an allegation against a traditional ruler, who they claim was attacking them with thugs.

The complainants, through their counsel, Mr. B. P. Ogundele, alleged that the traditional ruler was promoting lawlessness through the use of armed thugs to attack them in Oko-Olomi village, Ibeju-Lekki.

They said on three occasions, November 10, 11 and 19, the traditional ruler led some people to invade the village, adding that it was the timely intervention of Policemen from Elemoro Police Station that saved them.

They added that on November 19 the traditional ruler allegedly led armed thugs, accompanied by five armed soldiers to attack the village and at the end of the invasion, three thugs and two soldiers were arrested and detained at Elemoro Police Station before the transfer of the case file to Ajiwe Area Police Headquarters and one of the cars that brought the soldiers was impounded.

The complainants also alleged that the monarch, before transfer of the case file and suspects, revisited Elemoro Police Station to effect the release of the thugs and soldiers, but was not successful as the newly-posted Divisional Police Officer prevailed on his men to resist the attack on his station.

According to the complainants, on two consecutive occasions, the said monarch gave false information to the media that there was an attempt to kidnap him by some land grabbers, but the investigation that was conducted found the allegation false and frivolous.

They said: “Recently, the same Oba made complaint to Ajiwe Police Headquarters that his palace was attacked by some armed men and his property damaged.

“Police conducted investiga-tion and discovered that it was constructive destruction to raise false alarm to incriminate our clients.

“The action of the monarch, if not address, is capable of leading to breach of peace.”
