LOKOJA—Governor Idris Wada of Kogi State has assured of government efforts towards sustaining its 2013 polio and routine immunization rating despite earlier hiccups.
Wada gave the assurance when he received officials of the World Health Organization, WHO, in Lokoja, the state capital.
Wada who was represented by his Deputy, Mr. Yomi Awoniyi, lamented the strike action by local government health workers at the beginning of the year, which he noted affected the immunization coverage in the state, but assured that efforts were being made to cover the lost grounds.
He then commended the WHO and other partners for their support to the State in the areas of immunization, maternal and child health, as well as control of river blindness disease, tuberculosis and leprosy control.
In his presentation, the Monitoring and Evaluation Officer, WHO, Dr. Ahmed Khadri urged the state government to put in more efforts in order to regain its lost position in polio and routine immunization.
