Imo communities fault media attacks on Imo Speaker

MEMBERS of four autonomous communities of Umuihi, Ihinna, Amakohia and Amainyinta of Ihitte Uboma Local Government Area of Imo State, resident in Lagos, have faulted alleged media attacks on the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Benjamin Uwajumogu, by Whoba’s family.

Operating under the Assembly of the four autonomous communities in Lagos, they are demanding that Whoba’s family retract the said publications in which Uwajumogu, who also is from Umuihi community, was accused of hiring hoodlums to hijack Whoba’s Family land for road construction.

At a briefing, Chairman of the Assembly, Mr. Vincent Uba, equally called on Whoba’s family to apologise to Eze Lawrence Ihekweme, of Ihinna autonomous community for not reporting the matter to him before going to press.

He said: “The Assembly embarked on efforts at unraveling the veracity or otherwise of the allegation by the Whoba’s Family by sending a fact finding delegation to the two traditional rulers of the communities concerned. Efforts were equally made to hear directly from the two parties.

”From findings, the Assembly noted especially vide the briefings of Eze Ihekweme, that although the pillar in question was built by the Late Prince Whoba Ogo, the land on which the pillar was erected forms part of the road under construction by Imo State government linking the three markets of Amakohia, Umuihi and Ihinna autonomous communities to Ekeikpa Market in Amainyi autonomous community, and therefore not Whoba’s Family Land.”

“His Royal Highness while expressing shock and dismay, wondered why the families of Whoba who are the direct beneficiaries of the road construction. It is a known fact that prior to the construction of the road, their house could not be easily accessed due to bad road, should go the length of tarnishing an innocent person’s image. Not just any person, the number 1 citizen of Umuihi/Ihinna and number three citizen of Imo State.”
