MINNA — The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has won the rescheduled Niger-East Senatorial District by-election.
Its candidate, Dr Shem Nuhu Zagbayi, with 92,056 votes defeated David Umaru of All Progressives Congress, APC, who polled 87,405 votes.
Declaring Zagbayi the winner of the poll, yesterday, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Returning Officer, Professor Olakonmi Morenikeji, announced that Isa Bello of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, and Mr Abdulahi Diko of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) scored 2,185 and 419 votes respectively.
Morenikeji said the total number of registered voters was 149,851 and the total number of accredited voters who participated in the election stood at 205,765.
He said the total number of valid votes was 182,137, number of rejected votes 8,042 and total number of votes cast was 190,179.
The elections were rescheduled following the irregularities that marked the previous polls.
