The board of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) yesterday met with the National Sports Commission (NSC) ostensibly to discuss recent developments that have taken place ahead of the August 26 elective congress of the Nigeria Football Federation.
Sports Vanguard gathered that the meeting also dealt with the alleged order on the interim leadership of the NFF by security operatives not to hold the board’s proposed meeting of yesterday where it was to review and take a final decision on the report of the five man committee that was set up to look into ban placed on some football stakeholders by the impeached leadership of the NFF board.
Sources at the NFF secretariat hinted that the planned NFF board meeting was to lift the ban on former board member of the NFA, Chief Taiwo Ogunjobi, proprietor of Nembe City FC, Chief Victor Rumson Baribote as well as chairman of the Oyo state FA, Barr. Leye Adepoju.
Many analysts have argued that the alleged order to stop any form of NFF board meeting until after the NF election was a ploy by some yet to be ascertained stakeholders who want to ensure that their own candidate emerges as the president of the NFF.
A member of the board who would rather not be mentioned told Sports Vanguard that the way things are going, those plotting to take control of Nigerian football may end up forcing a ban of the country by FIFA because according to him, one aggrieved stakeholder who was denied buying the nomination form as already gone to court and may secure an injunction to stop the election.
According to him, the NFF meeting was expected to hold after the said meeting with the leadership of the NSC.
“We were supposed to hold a meeting here today by 3 pm but most of us are not here, I tell you, I don’t understand what is really going on. But the rumours make round that the board meeting has been cancelled is not through. The meeting will only be delayed because we are currently going to meet with the NSC leadership to iron out certain issues concerning the NFF election. But our meeting is still going to hold”. The board member added.
