ABUJA—The Executive Secretary of Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council, NERDC, Professor Godswill Obioma, yesterday, decried the approval of only N30 million of the N270 million appropriated for it in 2014 budget by the National Assembly.

Prof. Obioma stated this at the public presentation of the revised 9-year Basic Education Curriculum and kick-off of the training school of school teachers on the use of the teachers guide for the implementation of the curriculum in Abuja.

He said: “Of the N270 million proposed in the 2014 budget and admitted by our parent industry, and office of the Senior Special Assistant to Mr. President on MDGs to complete the printing of distribution of the outstanding books to primary 4-6, only N30 million was approved by the National Assembly.”

He said if the development was left uncorrected, “it will certainly derail the implementation of the revised BEC as approved by the NCE and thus affect the attainment of the transformation agenda of the federal government.
