LAGOS—SPECIAL Adviser to Nsukka—A leading transport company in Nigeria, Peace Mass Transit, yesterday, commenced the third quarterly training of over 4,000 drivers in the company’s fleet.
The one week exercise, organised by the management of PMT, in conjunction with the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, with the theme: “Safety consciousness as a habit” kicked off at the company’s headquarters at No 2, Destiny Layout, Emene, Enugu.
Declaring the event open, the Sector Commander, FRSC, Enugu, Corps Commander, Abayomi Olawoyin, represented by the Assistant Corps Commander, Rose Anosike, noted that road safety is a shared responsibility better achieved when all the key groups shared a culture of road safety.
According to her, “road users must take responsibility for complying with traffic laws and engaging in safe road behavior/culture. Unfortunately, this level of commitment is yet to be achieved.”
Imo State governor and Liaison Officer in Lagos State, Mr. Alex Ononugbo, has dismissed fears that the defection of the state governor, Chief Rochas Okorocha to the All Progressives Congress, APC, would affect chances of his re-election, noting that the people would never regret the decision.
He also called on Imo indigenes in Lagos to ensure that they use the liaison office to protect and promote their interest, adding that Okorocha is concerned about bringing governance to the door-step of the people.
His words: ‘’The defection to the APC is in the interest of the South East and it will not prevent him from seeking for re-election if he desires to do so.
“Some people have described his defection to the APC as being unstable but the truth is that he can only be among the people who share the same views and policies with him and that is what APC is offering.
“He has the opportunity to replicate what he is doing across the country. And if the opportunity presents itself, he will take it.
‘’I can assure you that Rochas was not working to be re-elected. Rochas was labouring not to satisfy political interests. The things he has done so far is a proof to that. Crime rate in Imo State was phenomenal before we came in. You could hardly work on the streets of Orlu and Owerri.
“We had incidents were people were kidnapped from their homes. But we succeeded in putting things back in shape.
‘’He put aside his security votes to ensure that education will be free in the state. As I speak to you all the autonomous communities in the state have all benefited from that decision.”
“It is necessarily to tell you about the rescue mission of the government. We came into office to rescue the state from the evil bedevilling the state
“The governor has set a totally new standard in governance. He has been able to consistently drive governance towards the yearning of the people.’’
