Lagos—Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State yesterday debunked claim that the state borrowed money either internationally or locally to finance the construction of houses under the Lagos Home Ownership Mortgage Scheme, Lagos HOMS.
The governor who disclosed this at the 5th raffle of Lagos HOMS held at Agidingbi, Ikeja, said the housing project the state had executed and executing in over 20 construction sites across the state were not financed with loans.
According to him, the housing projects were executed 100 percent by the state government.
His words “we have not borrowed a dime from any bank. So, there is no bank charge on this scheme. It is executed with the tax payers’ money. The state government is not paying interest to any bank because of this scheme.”
The governor who provided an insight into housing projects that are under construction, noted “We have expanded to Ilubirin, Iponri and Akerele Extension among others.
“Working is ongoing 23 additional construction sites. We have equally engaged 193 contractors. Also, about 2,483 persons of diverse qualification have been employed as a result apart from consultants.”
