Christian Chukwu
Former Super Eagles coach, Christian Chukwu has expressed confidence in the Super Eagles squad announced by chief coach, Stephen Keshi Monday night.
Speaking with Sports Vanguard yesterday, Chukwu who captained the Super Eagles to the 1980 Africa Cup of Nations triumph in Lagos said, “Keshi has done a good job. He has selected the best from the group of players he had in camp. Unfortunately, not everybody can go because FIFA has a seal and nobody can add to that number.”
Chukwu said that those who could not make the squad have nothing to worry about. “That they did not make the World Cup team does not make them outcasts. It does not men that they are not good. They are all still very young players who can break into the team any day as there are a lot of opportunities ahead of them.
“After the World Cup, the Nations Cup and World Cup qualifiers are coming, so they have a lot to prove and the platform is there,” the former national team handler said.
Looking ahead, Chukwu said he believes the Coach Stephen Keshi-tutored squad can go all the way to the quarter finals of the World Cup.
“Every country that goes to the World Cup wants to win the trophy. But all things being equal, I see the Super Eagles getting to the quarter finals,” Chukwu said with a lot of conviction.
