ABEOKUTA— Pandemonium broke out, weekend, at Goshen Estate, Asero, in Abeokuta South Local Government Area of Ogun State, when two factions of the private security guards popularly called vigilance groups clashed, leaving three people injured.

An eye witness told Vanguard that the   incident caused panic in the estate following the reported sporadic gun shots allegedly fired into the air by one of the factions identified as Vigilante Service of Nigeria, VSO, in the state.

Vanguard gathered that there had been supremacy battle between the Vigilante Service of Nigeria and the other faction identified as Vigilante of Nigeria since the inception of the current government which later recognised the VSO as the only authorised vigilante body in charge of security of some state institutions and private establishments in the state.

It was gathered that an attempt to dislodge members of the VGN from their duty posts in the estate turned bloody, leaving three of the VGN members injured.

The security coordinating officer in the area, Chief Olusola Fatokun, explained that the incessant robbery attacks on the people of the area prompted them to seek the service of VGN.

He, however, described the incident as unexpected and organised crime on the people, saying the VGN members were employed by the community to ensure law and order as well as security of the people.

According to him, these VSO people just came and started shooting sporadically into the air which created panic in the area and at the end of the day three of the guards were injured by VSO.

“They attacked them, beat them to comma to the extent that three of them were taken to hospital where they were treated. They also attempted to whisk some of them   to their office which was resisted.
