… as father, two children die under mysterious circumstance
Members of the Agbedu family in Kwara state are presently griped with fear over alleged threat to their lives, owing to a lingering land tussle.
As at time of filling this report, three prominent members of the family have reportedly lost their lives in the course of the crisis, while the where about of a member of the family, Solomon Agebdu , said to have fled home for fear of being killed , is yet unknown.
Speaking with Vanguard, a member of the family, Akinlolu Agbedu , traced the genesis of his family’s woe to over a decade ago, a Christian cleric , Pa Abosede Agbedu was reportedly given a parcel of land by his grandfather.
The gesture as gathered , generated a heated argument, as some members of the family made effort to lay claim to the land located at 11 Oke Taiwo street, Ilorin, Kwara state.
Explaining, one of Pa Agbedu’s surviving children, Akinolu , said : “ Pa Agbedu was allocated the parcel of land which was seriously contested by his step brothers, who were aggrieved because of the choice location and value attached of the properties.
“ After a prolong disagreement, thugs were called in by one of the aggrieved brothers leading to the brutalization of Pa Agbedu and his household. He was subsequently forced to vacate the land.
In the course of this crisis, my father , Pa Agbedu lost his life in 2003. two of his children : Joseph and Comfort Agbedu, also lost their lives as a result of the land matter. They all died in mysterious ways. One of his children and my brother , Solomon Agbedu, was also threatened with death. But he had since escaped for dear life. His whereabouts still remained unknown to us till death.
“ Attempt by extended family members to settle the dispute was rebuffed, as other parties a maintained their stand on the issue, claiming to be the rightful owner”, he stated.
