Group urges Rivers govt to set up oil communities’ commission

BY  JIMITOTA ONOYUME

PORT HARCOURT— Rivers State Government has been urged to set up  the Rivers State Oil Producing Area Derivation Commission to cater for the developmental needs of the oil producing communities in the state.

A group, Garden City Concerned Club, which made the call in Port Harcourt, in its statement by Mr. Donald Hart, said the oil bearing communities had continued to face challenges of pollution and underdevelopment, adding that there was an urgent need for the government to set up the commission to address the peculiar challenges in the communities.

According to him, Delta State and some others in the Niger Delta realised the peculiar challenges in oil producing communities and have since set up special commissions to address the issues.
