OWERRI—ACADEMIC activities in Imo State Polytechnic, Umuagwo, Ohaji, came to an abrupt end yesterday, following protest by youths of Ohaji/Egbema against an alleged relocation to Orlu of some department in the school by Rochas Okorocha’s administration.
Speaking to Vanguard at the scene of the protest, some of the youth leaders accused the governor of working in concert with the institution’s Rector, Rev. Fr. Wence Madu, to relocate some prominent departments to Orlu area.
Prince Rawlings Ohagwam expressed angst that Governor Rochas Okorocha lied to them when they had a demonstration of this nature, recalling that the governor invited the youths to Government House and declared before them and members of his executive council, lawmakers, security personnel that he had no plan to relocate any department from Umuagwo to another place.
“What we are seeing today is that they are relating almost all the courses run in the school to Orlu, Mbano and Ikeduru.
“We have more than 500 hectares of land and not up to 10 percent of it has been developed and ironically, government is moving into an area where they do not have up to two hectares of land,” Ohagwam said.
