ADO EKITI — The leader of Ekiti State All Progressives Congress, APC, caucus in the National Assembly, Senator Babafemi Ojudu has explained why his party is not in support of the proposed  National Conference organised by the Federal Government, saying it is  a ploy to extend the tenure of the President Goodluck Jonathan beyond 2015.

Ojodu, described the proposed national confab as a ‘charm and poison,’ saying members of his party do not intend to take a dose of poison.

He, however, said his party is only interested in the convocation of  Sovereign National Conference and not a ‘conference of deceit.’

The federal lawmaker  made the statement in Ado Ekiti, weekend, while presenting  prizes to 19 undergraduates and post graduates students of Ekiti origin, who participated in the 2013 edition of his essay competition.

His words: “What the APC is against is conference of deceit because this proposed confab by President Jonathan is diversionary.  They don’t want election in 2015, so they are only hiding under the  conference to seek tenure extension.

“Any trick that will extend the tenure of the present  government beyond the constitutionally recognised four-year term,  APC will go against it. This confab is a poison and APC as a party won’t take out of it.

“The President is aware that his party is imploding and dying. They know PDP cannot win election in 2015, they now want to organise a confab that will be rubber-stamped  at the National Assembly where they have majority. They know that whatever they do at the conference will be ratified.

“So, APC as a political party understands all these games and as far as we are concerned,  this is a conference of deceit and our party won’t take part  in it.”
