Voter’s card: Obiano did not err – Rights group

THE chairman of board of directors of International Society for Civil Liberties and the Rile of Law, INTERSOCIETY, Comrade Emeka Umeagbalasi has reacted to the rumour making the rounds that the candidate of All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, Chief Willy Obiano was involved in double registration, saying the governorship candidate did what the law provides when a voter transfers from one location to another.

Umeragbalasi told Vanguard Politics that his organization decided to investigate the matter in view of the weight of the allegation, adding that he, Obiano, did what is expected of him when he relocated from Lagos to Anambra State because of the election.

Umeagbalasi said: “Obiano registered in Lagos and when he picked the ticket of APGA, it became obvious that he would vote in Anambra State and so he approached the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, in the state who assigned an electoral officer to carry out the process of the transfer of his voter’s card from Lagos.  “Having done what he was expected to do, it was left for INEC to delete his name from the voters’ register in Lagos and the commission knows what to do.

“It is not the duty of the person who has transferred from one location to the other to go back to Lagos to find out if INEC has deleted his name ther”

According to him, it was surprising that people who ought to be campaigning to tell the electorate what they will do for the people are busy looking for a way of stopping somebody from contesting the election.
