THE Omambala Youths Forum, OYF, a pressure group of people in Anambra North senatorial zone comprising youths from Ayamelum, Anambra East, Anambra West and Oyi local government areas has withdrawn support for the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and endorsed the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA candidate Chief Willy Obiano.
Rising from their meeting at Otuocha in Anambra East local government area in which about 2000 people attended, members of the forum said they had waited long to see if the crisis rocking the PDP would be resolved having earlier endorsed Senator Andy Uba for the governorship race.
The group regretted that it is obvious that PDP is not prepared to contest the November 16 election in Anambra State.
President-General of OYF, Prince Innocent Ofordile, who presided at the meeting, said their decision to endorse Obiano is because he is from Anambra North, coupled with the fact that he is the most qualified of all the candidates to provide the dividends of democracy to Anambra people irrespective of their area.
According to him, with the endorsement, OYF has transferred all its structures in Anambta North to Obiano and would work hard to ensure that he wins the election.
Ofordile said: “Our members had to assess all the candidates and their antecedents and we believe that Obiaano has the capacity to sustain the giant strides of Governor Peter Obi. We have already discussed with the APGA candidate and we are excited at the programme he has for the state.
“What gladdens our hearts most is his programme for youth empowerment, infrastructural development of the state and ensuring that no child of school age drops out of school.
“He is a very intelligent person who does not make unnecessary noise like other politicians who are causing confusion in the polity and constituting nuisance in public places.”
He described his emergence as the opportunity for Anambra North to produce governor for the state and commended Governor Obi for remaining steadfast.
