KADUNA—A day after the Youth Development Minister, Inuwa Abdulkadir, was sacked, Arewa youths have hailed the decision as a welcome development and praised President Goodluck Jonathan for removing the Minister.

The youths, under the aegis of Arewa Youth Forum, AYF, said the former minister did not deserve to occupy his position any longer, having lost touch with issues relating to youth welfare and development.

National President of AYF, Alhaji Gambo  Gujungu, made the position of the youths known while reacting to the removal of Abdulkadir in an interview with Vanguard.

According to Gujungu, Abdulkadir refused to listen to advice by well-meaning youth groups in the north on how to tackle the myriad of challenges confronting them on a daily basis.

“We see the sack of the minister by President Jonathan as a welcome development,” Gujungu said, adding that it could not have come at a better time than it did.

“To be honest with you, the former minister did not do much to satisfy the needs of the teeming youth population in the country and his removal did not come to us as a surprise. We are aware he did not know how to handle youth problems even though we tried many times to advise him he did not listen to us.”.

Gujungu however called on President Jonathan to source for a competent based as individual against political affiliation to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, from Sokoto State to serve as youth development minister and move the sector forward.

He warned that any attempt to appoint the replacement based on political considerations would also not produce the required result and might also lead to disappointment.

It will be recalled that the former minister was unceremoniously booted out of office by President Jonathan on Monday while he was away on official assignment in Calabar, the Cross State capital.
