With tickets for opening ceremony going for between £3,000 to £4,000 many who wanted to be at the Olympic Stadium  to watch the opening ceremony could still not get seats at the magnificent stadium.

Not everybody will watch the games here.

But LOCOG, the organisers have made sure that those who could not be part of the fabulous show  and those who may not be able to watch the games live at the various venues will still be part of the Olympics.

LOCOG have brought the Olympics to the homes and communities in Britain and Londoners cannot complain of not being part of the greatest show on earth. No Olympic Games have been made to be embraced by the people more than London has done.

The Olympic Torch went to almost all communities here and hundreds of thousands of people came out to embrace  it any time it landed in their area.

It made the people feel good. It made them feel Olympian and they are grateful for that. Hundreds of thousands lined out yesterday on the final journey of the Torch to the Olympic Stadium. They celebrated what they said was a day of destiny for them as many argued that “it could only happen once in our life time.”

For three minutes in the morning yesterday, churches, shops and most parts of the city of London people rang bells to announce that the games are here. It was timed to happen at the same time the Big Ben rang a bell too.  This generation would have been gone by the time London gets the chance to host another Olympics. This is why many get emotional about the Olympics.

London, more than any other past host, has made the people part of it. It has united the country in excitement and optimism.

For the past 70 days, the Torch covered 8,000 miles and was carried by 8,000 bearers around Britain. Stars and past heroes were not only the bearers. They included people who have in one way or the other contributed to the development of their communities.

Residents of various communities all knew that they could be part of it and and were encouraged. Thousands watched the event last night on large screen television at the Olympic Park. Five local channels (not cable television) will be beaming the games to the people of great Britain.

“This is simply bringing the games to the people and we are delighted about this,” said one fan at the Oxford Circus Train Station.
