NSUKKA, ENUGU STATE—Chairman, Senate Committee on Works, Senator Ayogu Eze, has said Nigeria would not witness development unless concerted efforts were made to fight corruption in the country.

He also said efforts by the Federal Government to enhance growth of the nation’s economy would not yield fruit, if rule of law was not enforced in the country.

Senator Eze’s observations was contained in an address delivered at a symposium organised by Nsukka Professional Group, at Nsukka, Enugu State.

“No country has witnessed real growth as those who rape public treasury were given red carpet treatment which speaks on the absence of rule of law in the society.

“In each of the economies that thrived, rule of law, honesty and good conduct stand out as key factors responsible for the feat of that nation,” he said.

He noted the untapped human and material resources in the country and Africa generally, stressing that failure of leadership in the country had over the years held the country down.

Senator Eze, who represents Enugu North senatorial district, challenged Nsukka professionals group  on the position of Nsukka people in the future of Nigeria.

In his welcome address, President, Nsukka Professional Group, Dr. Basil Onugu, said the group was desirous of making a difference through positive and re-orientation of people of the area.

According to him, the objective of the group is to ensure that Nsukka occupied a pride of place in the comity of nations.

He called for the establishment of Nsukka business forum to drive industrialization, Nsukka Chamber of Commerce and Industry to organise mini trade fairs.

He also noted that communities should take advantage of natural resources and make good use of them through establishment of fisheries milling plants, palm oil and kernel processing; soap making, arts and crafts, foundry, among others.
