IKEJA—Chairman,House Committee on State Public Accounts, of Lagos State House of Assembly, Mr. Bolaji Ayinla, has described the performance of internal auditors in ministries, agencies and parastatals in the state as ineffective and below standard.

Another  lawmaker, Mr. Waheed  Alawiye, also faulted the performance of the internal auditors.

The lawmakers made the remarks at the on-going consideration of the  2010 State Auditor-General’s Report at the Assembly Complex, Alausa.

Ayinla noted that all the internal auditors performed below expectation, adding that the committee will not  hesitate to sanction any internal auditor who did not meet up with the standard required in the financial regulation governing them.

He said: “ I am not happy with the performance of the internal auditors ; they have not guided their ministries, parastatals and agencies very well in the area of scrutinising their account before appearing before the committees.

“Lack of proper documentation and financial management are among the problems facing the internal auditor, which invariably expose their ministries to financial crisis.”
