AWKA—A Federal High Court sitting in Awka, Anambra State, has granted leave to the state chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chief Ken Emeakayi, to bring an application to compel the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to withdraw the certificates of return issued by a faction of the party to some people declared winners in the April 2011 general elections.

Emeakayi had in the suit prayed for an order of Mandamus compelling INEC to issue the certificates to the candidates sponsored by his leadership, in view of the fact that he was the authentic chairman of PDP in Anambra State.

By the order granted by the trial judge, Justice Peter Olayiwola, the national and state assembly members in Anambra State elected on the platform of PDP will be affected. The matter was adjourned till March 23, 2012, for mention.

Meanwhile, as INEC prepares for the rerun election for Anambra South senatorial zone tomorrow, there is still confusion in the PDP as to who would carry the party’s flag.

Two PDP aspirants, Dr. Andy Uba and Chief Nicholas Ukachukwu, have been busy mobilizing for the election.

The development prompted the leadership of All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, to call for the disqualification of PDP for allegedly attempting to field two candidates as it did in April, 2011.
