MAIDUGURI—THE Borno State Government is set to provide financial support to about 10,000 traditional Islamic schools, otherwise called Tsangaya, registered across the state.

The support is aimed at assisting in feeding thousands of pupils popularly known as almajiris, that depend on begging for feeding.

Governor Kashim Shettima gave this indication, yesterday, when he received traditional rulers in the state who paid him a courtesy visit in his office.

Shettima told the royal fathers led by the Shehu of Borno, Abubakar Umar Garbai Elkanemi that ‘’by next week, government will be addressing issues of feeding faced by Tsangaya schools’’ and urged the them to continually help in promoting peace and cultural values in the state.

Earlier in his address, the Shehu of Borno, said the traditional rulers were at Government House to congratulate the governor on his victory at the Supreme Court as well as to commend him for paying good attention to the traditional institution in the state.

According to Alhaji Elkanemi, the royal fathers were happy with reconstruction works in most palaces across the state, just as he expressed happiness that the government had provided them with new vehicles.
