NBA asks lawyers to boycott courts

LAGOS – Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, yesterday, directed lawyers in the country to boycott courts from Monday, as they join other Nigerians to protest the increase in pump price of petrol by the Federal Government.

National President of the NBA,  Mr Joseph Daudu, SAN, also directed branches of the association to constitute teams of able and dedicated lawyers, to assist free of any charge, persons, who may be unlawfully arrested or manhandled during the period of protest.

Daudu in a statement, in Abuja, said “The NBA had since the purported removal of fuel subsidy been in active consultation with the Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC; Trade Union Congress, TUC; Nigeria Medical Association, NMA and other professional bodies and civil societies.

According to him, “it is unfortunate that the people must at this point in time be forced to confront government as a result of the latter’s unviable and self-serving economic policies.

Meanwhile, members of the NBA, Ikeja branch and the Federation of Women Lawyers yesterday protested against the increase in pump price of petrol from N65 to N141.
