The Special Offences Court in Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos, has arraigned one Mr. Nojimudeen Adebeshin, a 42 -year old motorcyclist popularly called “Okada” rider for violating traffic regulations along Mile 12 / Ikorodu Road.
Adebeshin who was arraigned on a three count charge of dangerous driving, causing obstruction and lack of respect for other road users. At the time of his arrest by the officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA on the 22nd January, 2012 , he was driving a commercial bus with registration number XW 12FST
Testifying in court, the Area Commander Echo, Muyiwa Ogunoiki stated that the suspect drove against traffic (a one way) , climbed the kerb in an attempt to escape justice and hit an Izusu Rodeo Jeep and a commercial motorcycle thereby endangering lives of innocent citizens.
The Commander recalled that Adebeshin’s conductor sat in the front seat of the bus diverting other road users to another side of the road in order to create enough space for his bus to drive on a way prohibited by Law.
The presiding Magistrate, Mrs. Yetunde phielro adjourned the matter till today 1st of February 2012 , after the suspect pleaded not guilty. She ordered that the defendant should be remanded in custody.
In another development, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority LASTMA has increased its zonal offices to 30, with the creation of additional four. According to the General Manager, Mr. Babatunde Edu, the move is to ensure that motorists get to their destination on time.
