UGHELLI – ENVIRONMENTAL sanitation mobile court, sitting in Ughelli, Delta State, weekend, convicted 17 persons for contravening the state Environmental Sanitation Laws.

Convicting the offenders, Administrative Magistrate of Ughelli Magisterial court, Mr. Carl Moeteke, said the conviction of culprits was to serve as deterrent to others taht were likely violate the law in the state in general and Ughelli in particular.

Expressing disappointment over the non- compliance of residence of the Ughelli metropolis, with the state sanitation laws, he stressed the need for the people to cultivate the habit of coming out on monthly basis to clean up their environment.

He said the exercise would reduce the incidence of communicable diseases in the area, if adhered to by residents.
Fines imposed on the defaulters ranged from N1000 to N2000 while others were made to clean up the Otovwodo market in the Ughelli metropolis.

Chairman of the state Waste Management Board, Chief Olori Magege, who fielded questions from newsmen, while monitoring the exercise, said the state Government was determined to enforce laws guiding the monthly sanitation exercise in the state.
