Yenagoa—Delay in payment of the N18,000 new minimum wage to civil servants in Bayelsa State has been blamed on the outcome of last month’s Federal Allocation Committee which was inconclusive.
Governor Timipre Sylva had promised to effect payment of the new minimum wage from October.
Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Stephen Ogullah, in a statement in Yenagoa, pleaded with workers to be patient with the government. He said the delay was caused by the inconclusive outcome of the October Federal Allocation Committee meeting in Abuja.
Ogullah assured that government remained committed to the payment of salaries regularly and promptly.
The Commissioner said all arrangements for the implementation of the new minimum wage had been completed. He appealed for calm and understanding from all.
