Anambra to sack defaulting contractors

BY VINCENT UJUMADU
AWKA — CONTRACTORS working for Anambra State Government who execute shoddy jobs are to have their contracts terminated.

Governor Peter Obi, who handed down the warning while inspecting progress of work at the Majuo- Okolobo road in Awka, the state capital, said that with the rains over, the expectation of the state government was that contractors would move to sites to complete the projects awarded to them.

He, however, expressed satisfaction with the level of work on the road and cautioned residents of the area not to turn the culvert being constructed into refuse dumps.

He said the state government would soon sponsor a bill in the state House of Assembly which, when passed into law, would deal with indiscriminate dumping of refuse in the state.

The governor assured the people of Awka that his government would not relent in its efforts to provide necessary infrastructure in Awka to make it a befitting state capital.
