Ado-Ekiti- OVERNOR Kayode F ayemi of Ekiti State, Tuesday promised to create not less than 20,000 jobs within the four years of his government even as the government employed another batch of 2,500 youths under its Volunteer Corps scheme.
The state government had in August this year recruited the first batch of 2,500 youths with a promise employing additional 2,500 later.
The youths who passed through leadership and entrepreneurial skills training for ten days will be deployed into the various sectors of the state economy.
Speaking at the pass-out parade, yesterday, Governor Kayode Fayemi, pledged to provide 20,000 jobs within four years.
Fayemi expressed delight that his administration succeeded in reducing unemployment in the state with the absorption of 5,000 youths into the various sectors in the state.
He said his administration had declared a total war on unemployment and poverty, saying the evolution of the scheme was a pointer that “every vestige of poverty will be removed from Ekiti land.”
Fayemi who described the job creation efforts of his government as “centre point of the administration’s developmental programme for the empowerment of the youths in the state”, said the new employees would be used to boost agriculture in the state.
According to him, his administration had just signed an agreement with development partners to revive farm settlements in the state to ensure food security.
