ABEOKUTA— FORMER Governor of Ogun State Otunba Olugbenga Daniel Wednesday declared his readiness to appear before the Truth Commission recently set up by Governor Ibikunle Amosun.

A statement by his Media Assistant, Mr. Adegbenro Adebanjo announcing Daniel’s intention to appear before the Commission also congratulated Amosun for his 100 days in office.

The former Governor said that he wholeheartedly welcome the idea of the Truth Commission as announced by the Governor.

He said: “ From the initial composition, we noticed that the Commission is composed of men of proven integrity capable of ensuring justice in this sensitive assignment.

“As we await the Terms of Reference, Otunba Daniel wishes to confirm his full participation and his personal attendance at the hearing.

“ We however believe that to do justice, he will require at least one week to give his testimony with opportunity for multimedia presentations, and live coverage of the proceedings by both the local television stations and at least a national television.

“It is also important that all of the proceedings and testimonies should be conducted openly, with all issues allowed for discussion.

“We believe that the Commission will afford the people of Ogun State and Nigerians in general the opportunity to know the truth against the falsehood and vile propaganda that have ruled the airwave in the last few years.”

Governor Ibikunle Amosun during the celebration of his 100 days in office announced the setting up of a Truth Commission to look into the cases of the killings in the last administration .

According to him, “you will recall that during the campaigns, we promised that we would not allow the plight of our compatriots who lost their lives, property or were brutalised and made to suffer different forms of brutality to pass away without appropriate measures to seek redress or, at least, investigate what happened.

To fulfil that promise, we have set up a five-member body to be known as the Ogun State Truth Commission. It will be headed by former Supreme Court Judge Pius Aderemi (rtd).

Other members are Justice Abdullahi Mustapha (rtd), former chief judge of the Federal High Court, Justice Dolapo Akinsanya (rtd), former Chief Judge of Lagos State, Mr. Bamidele Aturu, a Lagos-based lawyer and human rights activist. The fifth member is a nominee from the state branch of the NBA, Mr. Tunji Onabawo. The Truth Commission will soon be inaugurated.”
