The All Nigeria People’s Party, ANPP, has warned the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, that it may soon lose integrity and respect  of  the nation’s  citizens if it continues to disregard trust as an important component of the social contract between government and the people.

The party made this known as the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, prepares for another strike action.

The party also said that the Federal Government was insincere in its engagements with ASUU over  the  agreement reached with it three years ago.

National Chairman of the ANPP, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, told Sunday Vanguard  in Abuja that the party was worried that the Federal Government had allowed such an agreement it entered into freely with ASUU to be used as a  subject of dispute despite several assurances by government that it would abide by it.

Onuh, a former university don, spoke against the backdrop of the  activities of the Boko Haram   sect in some parts of the North as well as the labour crises across the country over non-implementation of the N18,000 new minimum wage for workers, pointing out that any further ugly developments from the education sector would amount to adding too much burden on Nigerians.

“The PDP government should realise that trust is an important instrument or component of the social contract between government and the people,”he stated.

‘’It is therefore important for the Federal Government to keep its side of the agreement with ASUU, in the interest of good conscience and sincerity of purpose.

’’Education remains an important instrument for the peace and development of our nation.
‘’It is regrettable that, in recent times, standards have fallen to the extent that many parents now send their children to schools in other countries.

‘’A few years ago, it was overseas. Now it is our immediate neighbours. This is unacceptable and needs to be addressed urgently”.
