Abia Govt disowns rape video

BY BEN AGANDE & Anayo Okoli
Umuahia- Less than 24 hours after the authorities of Abia State University, Uturu, disowned the video clip where  a gang of five young   men alleged to be students of the university subjected a young girl to marathon rape, Abia State Government, Thursday, came out also to deny that such incident took place in the university.

The government blamed the linking of the barbaric act to the university on political opponents who want to tarnish the image of the government.

The government  described the video clip currently circulating everywhere in the state and beyond as “a contraption of some idle people”, saying that “it is so ridiculous that people believe this.”

This is coming on a day the House of the Representatives discussed the matter under Issue of Urgent National Importance, where they urged the Inspector General of Police and other security agencies to get to the root of the matter and apprehend those involved.

Briefing journalists yesterday, Governor Theodore Orji’s aides, Chief Eze Chikamnayo, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy and Mr. Ugochukwu Emezue, Special Adviser on Electronic Media, dismissed the video clip as “handiwork of political enemies and the figment of some idle minds.”

They said nobody has complained that she was raped or that his or her ward was raped.
