Survival of the fittest in Armenia

Ecuador vs Spain

The FIFA U-20 World Cup continues tomorrow with Groups C and D taking the centre stage.

After battering Costa Rica 4-1 Sunday night, European champions and tournament favourites, Spain will be aiming for a perfect run as they confront one of South American representatives, Ecuador who drew 1-1 with Australia in their opening game.

With a robust history and antecedents, Spain appear the clear favourites in this match-up which will parade the best of South American football against the Spaniards whose unique style unsettles the rugged European pattern and the sleek passing game of the South Americans.

But the coach Julen Lopetegui’s team must not be complacent as the South Americans could pose a bigger problem than when they saw off Costa Rica.

With strikers like Poke and Rodri who scored a double against Costa Rica, it looks bleak for Ecuador as the European champions expect to climb the podium on the last day of the competition. Definitely, it will be an interesting match for football lovers to watch out for.

Australia vs Costa Rica

The second match in Group C features Australia and Costa Rica. The two teams desperately need points to shore up their chances of reaching the next stage of the tournament. A loss for either of them spells doom.

It is even worse for C. Rica who lost their opening game to Spain as a victory on Wednesday over Australia(which is unlikely) could bring back smiles to their country men and women.

Group D

Saudi Arabia vs Guatemala

Debutantes, Guatemala may have received their baptism of fire from a rampant Nigerian side in their opening game but the enormous potential in the team could not be fully realised due to the suffocating style adopted by the West Africans. It is expected that the team will re-strategise ahead of Wednesday’s match against the Saudis.

Saudi Arabia on the other hand sent warning signals to all comers when they stopped Croatia with a convincing 2-0 trouncing. It will be a battle of the survival of the fittest.

Nigeria vs Croatia

Nigeria will file out with an air of superiority over the Croats as the Flying Eagles are sitting atop the group with a very favourable goal margin. This will surely pose a big psychological disadvantage to the Balkans who will be playing for a first point in the tournament.

Croatia would not want to disappoint their teeming fans a second time and will go all out against the Nigerians.

After a the sterling performance of his boys in the opening game, Coach John Obuh assured his country men that their best was yet to come. ?We will be growing from strength to strength and our best is yet to come.?

With hungry strikers like Kayode, Edafe, Ajagun and the ever exciting Ahmed Musa, coupled with the solid defence provided by Kenneth Omeruo, Terna Suswan and goal keeper Dani Paul, the Flying Eagles look good to carry the day.

Croatia would however, employ counter tactics and surprise the fast playing Nigerians. Former Nigeria international, Silvanus Okpala warned, ?the Nigerians must be careful when they rush out. The Croatians could be dangerous because they are down, they would want to strike when you least expect.?
