NMA decries quackery, seeks elders’ intervention

BY ANAYO OKOLI

ABA- Chairman of Aba zone of Nigeria Medical Association, Dr. Iheanyi Uwaoma, weekend, decried “jankara” practice in the medical profession and challenged senior doctors to show junior ones the best and honest way to practice the profession.

Uwaoma said with the practice of  “anything goes” era in the profession, “human life seems to be losing its value.”

The NMA zonal Chairman spoke, at the first edition of Dr. Ubani Ukoma Memorial Lecture/Quiz Competition in Aba.

Uwaoma argued that  values were gradually being eroded in the society and called for serious rescue mission from elders and upright members of the various professionals.

He said: “Today, values are gradually being eroded. What is moral or immoral is nearly fusing into one with no clear boundaries. Ethical principles are crucified at the altar of expediency. We need the lectures to remind our selves of what Dr. Ubani Ukoma lived and died for and thereby encourage ourselves to be the best that we can be in this highly-bastadised, quackery-infested and unappreciative environment.”
