Residents of Yenagoa the Bayelsa State capital were, Tuesday, locked in panic buying ahead of the three warning strike by the Nigeria Labour Congress,NLC, and the Trade Union Congress,TUC, which is expected to commerce tomorrow barring any last minute concession by federal government.
Already the Comrade Ebiuwou Koku-Obiyai led state chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress directed its members to stay away from their duty post in deference to its national secretariat three day warning strike in protest over the refusal of the federal government to implement the N18,000 minimum wage law.
The strike action is expected to commence effectively 12 midnight should the federal government and labour fail to reach an agreement.
Long queues were noticed in virtually all the filling stations in town as residents and motorists stormed the stations to have their cars filled and also stock fuel at home to power generators in anticipation that the stations would be shut down during the strike period.
The situation was not different at the popular Swali market and other smaller community market in the Yenagoa metropolis where residents were locked in last minute rush to stock their homes with foodstuff.
Officials of the various trade union affiliates were also sighted going round all the business premises in the capital city distributing fliers calling on all such business owners and workers to close shop.
