LAGOS — The Congress for Progressive Change, CPC, has dismissed claims of the factionalisation of the party, saying it was another scheme by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to weaken the CPC’s pursuit of its petition at the presidential election tribunal.

Reacting to claims of a rival faction of the party purportedy led by Senator Rufai Hanga, the CPC national publicity secretary, Mr. Rotimi Fashakin, blamed a dismissed national officer who the party said was aiming to sabotage the cohesion of the party.

Fashakin’s statement was in reaction to a statement by a rival group in the party recognising Hanga as national chairman in the place of Prince Tony Momoh. Momoh has the backing of Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (rtd.), the party’s presidential candidate in the recent election.

Noting how Hanga exited his position in the interim leadership of the party, Fashakin said: “True, Senator Rufai Hanga was the protem chairman of the party but the tenure had been terminated by his ambition to become Governor of Kano which necessitated participating in the subsequent primaries.”
