The Lagos chapter of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPM), the foremost people management institute in Africa, is set to hold its 9th annual conference at the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria (ASCON), Topo, Badagry.
Addressing the Press in Lagos Thursday, organisers of the conference stated that the three-day event will start on July 20 and end on July 22 after which a communiqué will be issued.
The conference with the theme: Enhancing people contribution towards achieving sustainable development, according to the organisers, is expected to attract participants from corporate organisations, business entrepreneurs, human resources/admin directors, industrial relations practitioners, trade unions, manufacturing sector, financial services sector, the academia, IT companies etc.
Chairman of CIPM Lagos Chapter, Mrs. Nkeiru Adesogan promised that this year’s event will be better than the previous ones. Some of the speakers expected at the event include Mr. Femi Oke of Nigerian Breweries, Rre Elijah Litheko from South Africa, Mr. Joseph Stafford, US Consular-General and Prince Adesegun Ogunlewe, head of service, Lagos State.
Underscoring the importance of people management to economic growth, a former Lagos Chapter Chairman of CIPM, Mr. Ben Omakor noted that nations that are naturally endowed are amongst the poorest because they fail to invest in people while less endowed nations invest in people and therefore, are among the rich nations. He added that “it’s not the amount of natural resources you have that matters but the quality of your human resources.”
