PenCom to commence registration of retiring workers

The National Pension Commission (PenCom) is to commence registration of retiring workers of Federal Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) for all retiring workers whose retirement benefits should ordinarily be funded by the Treasury.

The exercise which will start on June 13, 2011 will continue till July 22, 2011 and it is taking place simultaneously in 16 centres across the nation for easy participation by enrollees.

The Head of Corporate Communication in PenCom, Mr. Emeka Onuora in a statement said the Director-General, Mr. Muhammad Ahmad has advised all affected employees to participate in the exercise, warning that only employees who are enrolled would get the Federal Government retirement bond.

Onuora explained that the exercise which is intended to physically enroll each employee would also cover employees who have already retired but were yet to be enrolled.

Enrollees according to Onuora are expected to bring present the original and photocopies of their respective letters of appointment, birth certificate or declaration of age, promotion letters, pay slips indicating grade and step as at June 30, 2004.

Other documents that the enrollees are expected to present are their respective letters of introduction from the MDAs where they are retiring or retired from, their authenticated past record of service, their current payslips indicating grade level and step, evidence of registration with Pension Fund Administrator (PFA) and a passport photograph each.

In order to ensure a successful exercise, the commission has asked the affected MDAs to make available at least one Pension Desk Officer from their respective offices to assist in identifying intending retirees and to confirm the authenticity of the documents presented by each enrollee.

The commission according to Onuora also assured that medically unfit employees are exempted from the exercise and has advised the Pension Desk Officers for organisation that employed such individuals to come with letters from qualified physicians, confirming that the affected employees are medically unfit to attend the exercise.
