Lagos – The DSTV Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Joseph Hundah, on Monday said that reality television shows in Nigeria had enabled the youth to develop their potentialities.
Hundah in Lagos said that many youths had believed in themselves and embraced hard work because of their exposure to the reality shows.
He noted that the youths who took part in the “Big Brother Africa” had become famous in their various countries.
Hundah said that reality shows involved challenging tasks that would make youths to be composed, thoughtful and courageous.
He said that DSTV, the organisers of the Big Brother Africa reality show, had been improving on the programme since its inception.
“I think it has really helped people involved in it,” Hundah said.
He urged Nigerian youths to showcase their talents and have high aspirations to be able to contribute much to the growth of the society.
“We have lots of talented people in Nigeria yet to be discovered; so, we should create a platform for them to do that,” the CEO said.
Hundah explained that the sixth edition of the Big Brother Africa which began on May 1 was tagged “Big Brother Africa Amplified (BBAA)’’ gave room for two contestants from each West African country as against one in the past.
Hundah disclosed that the Nigeria Bottling Company was partnering with DSTV in the organisation of the BBAA .
The CEO expressed satisfaction that successive winners of the Big Brother Africa had become celebrities.
“ When they become celebrities, they have others looking up to them,” he remarked.
He urged the winners to be role models to the youth.
“Power and position come with responsibilities and decency; without control, they become a problem to the society,” Hundah said.
According to him, DSTV usually organise courses for winners of the reality shows to enable them to properly handle the responsibilities that come with their new positions.
“A whole lot of youths are looking up to them, watching every of their steps, doings and sayings,” he noted.
He said that the latest winner of the Big Brother Africa show, Uti Nwachukwu, was already anchoring some shows. (NAN)
