Labour issues Diamond Bank 14-day ultimatum on workers’ welfare

By Victor Ahiuma-Young

NATIONAL Union of Banks, Insurance and Financial Institutions Employees, NUBIFIE, has given the management of  Diamond Bank Plc, a 14-day ultimatum to address all pending industrial issues or face unprecedented industrial action.

NUBIFIE General Secretary, Mr Elijah Ola, said that the union will not guarantee industrial peace in the bank as from June 3, if the management refuses to address “issues surrounding workers welfare.”

He said: “We believe, the management of Diamond Bank will agree with us that the human capital management in the bank is not in tandem with modern industrial relation practice.

“There is the need for the leadership of the bank to take lessons and lectures from other reputable banks in the country.

To buttress our claims, this union had written three letters to management on the review of workers condition of service, while none of the letters was replied. As a responsible bank with track records of achievements, the management is very much familiar with the practice of Trade Unionism,” he added.
