Baptists okay 2011 poll

 …say post-election violence callous, ungodly, despicable

The Nigerian Baptist Convention, NBC, has welcomed the outcome of the recent general elections in the country, saying that the election process was an answer to prayers of the faithful.

The General Secretary of the Convention, Rev. Solomon Ademola Ishola who declared this during the on-going 98th annual session of the Convention in Ogbomoso nevertheless condemned the violence that followed the elections describing it as callous and ungodly.

Ishola in a statement signed on his behalf by his Protocol Assistant, Revd Tunde Jenfa, Rev. Ishola said the just concluded general election with its acceptability by the developed world is a testimony that God’s answer to the prayers which the church and others made for the country before the poll.

“I believe the Lord answered our prayers alongside of others who sought God’s face concerning our nation Nigeria.

The recent election is indicative of God’s visitation, in spite of irresponsible elements among us who caused and unleashed mayhem that led to the death of many good citizens including those innocent corps members who were hacked down few days to the conclusion of their compulsory service for our country. By the grace of God, their shed blood would never be in vain, he said.

On the outcome of the election, Ishola whose 10 years tenure ends this week rejoices with the victors saying, “We congratulate the President and all who won in the recent elections. We pray they will all add greater value to the economy of our nation. For the Baptists who won elections, we challenge you to make a positive difference in your political career”.
