Olatunji Olarewaju Abdulazeez a.k.a Xcape, an upcoming Yoruba rap artiste would deny without hesitation that he is not a copy cat.
According to Xcape, he had performed Yoruba rap in the same shows as Da Grin. He said: “It was not really a close relationship that we had but we knew ourselves on the Hi- Hi level and we both knew the other person did the Yoruba rap thing.
We literally came to shows and tried to outdo each another. Even back then in Mushin, we both knew we were in strong competition.
Yoruba rap wasn’t a very popular singing norm and only very few people were trying it out, let alone be good at it”
Xcape said: “Actually, that is the challenge that I am facing right now. People think I’m just trying to copy Da Grin so I could easily become famous. I’ve been into this for a very long time. Most people in my area know that I have been doing this for long including the late Da Grin himself because we were both Mushin boys.
When Da Grin’s song first came on radio airwaves, people called me thinking I was the one. I had to clear myself. Today, I tell you that my inspirations are genuine, I am not copying Da Grin “
Xcape is resilient he can prove this to the world. He said: “I only now need a good manager who will be able to make people discover my music and realise that I’ve got the talent and not just running in someone else’ shadow. I know that music fans are going to love me.”
