CBN lauds Unity Bank at Award Night

The Makurdi Branch of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has named Unity Bank Plc the non-settlement bank with the most voluminous number of instruments cleared in the area in 2010.

At a Bankers’ Award Night held by the apex bank in the Benue State capital, representatives of Unity Bank received an award plaque on behalf of the bank’s Group Managing Director, Falalu Bello.

Also, Unity Bank was named runner up in value and volume of cheques cleared from CBN’s Katsina Clearing House.

Responding to media enquiries, Bello, who was recently named the Business Hallmark Banker of the year 2010, expressed satisfaction with the bank’s performance and encouraged the staff to continue to give their best by providing quality service to the bank’s customers.

He said the bank was poised to achieve its goal of being counted among the five top banks in the country in terms of market share in the near future.

At the Makurdi Bankers’ Award night, CBN also named Unity Bank as the second bank with the largest value of cheques cleared during the year under review.

The bank had won first position in both categories in 2009.

This is coming on the heels of Unity Bank’s awards for the highest number of instruments cleared through the Kano Zone of the CBN.

Meanwhile, Governor of CBN, Malam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, recently told members of the international media at a parley in London that Unity and Wema Banks ‘have fixed their problems’.

Moreover, the Kaduna Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture, lately rated Unity Bank as the most improved bank among participating banks at the just concluded 32nd Kaduna International trade fair.
