Governor Peter Obi of Anambra State has warned communities to avoid acts capable of disrupting ongoing projects in their areas.
Reacting to threats to the contractor handling the Otuocha-Ibaji-Nzam-Innoma-Iheaka Ibaji road, Governor Obi said while he was determined to attract and extend development to all parts of the state, government would not tolerate irresponsible behaviour that could frustrate the present tempo of development and urge parents and guardians to keep close watch over their children and wards.
The member representing Anambra West in the State Assembly, Mr. Mike Offor, said any member of his constituency that threatened the smooth running of the road construction project in the area would be severely punished.
Offor expressed disappointment that after Governor Obi awarded the Umuezeanam-Mmiata road and attracted the Federal Government through sustained representations to award the Umuezeanam-Kogi road, being the first two roads under construction in the Local Government Area, some miscreants, instead of being grateful to the governor ,chose to threaten and disturb the contractors.
He noted that Governor Obi had restored smiles on the faces of the people through massive infrastructural development, including roads, hospital rehabilitation and building of schools, aimed at opening up the entire area and had, in addition, visited the local government several times.
Other stakeholders including the Anglican Bishop of Mbamili, Right Reverend Henry Okeke have on different for a warned against harassing the contractors, assuring necessary measures would be taken to encourage them.
It will be recalled that the project Manager of the Niger Cat, Mr. Chami Ali had earlier written to the Anambra State Commissioner for police on the threat messages from GSM no. 08061668446 and 08164132760 asking him to pay 30 Million Naira or his company will risk disruption of their activities, including kidnapping.
