WARRI—A Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, aspirant to the Delta State House of Assembly to represent Burutu South Constituency 11, Chief Mike Loyibo, has said that there were no primaries in his constituency, calling on the PDP at both state and national levels to reject the result of the House of Assembly primaries purportedly held in Burutu Constituency 11.
Addressing newsmen in Warri, Delta State, Chief Loyibo condemned the attitude of some politicians from his constituency, who he accused of fabricating delegates list in a constituency where there was no ward congress.
He, therefore, sought to know where and how the returning officer sent to monitor the primaries, Mr. Felix Anirah, got the delegates list with which he claimed to have used to conduct the purported primaries. He alleged that some of the authentic delegates elected in the first ward congress that was cancelled, who went to the venue of the said primaries were denied the opportunity to have access to the venue by thugs hired by his opponent.
He said that as a loyal party man who believes in the PDP, he has decided to cry out to the PDP executive at both state and federal levels through the media, urging them to take decisive steps in their much publicized drive for internal democracy. He demanded for justice, emphasizing that the issue is capable of inflicting cracks in the PDP in the area.
“I am here to reject the result of the primaries of yesterday because it was done in a very bad fate. There was no delegate’s congress from the various wards and the list they used was not the authentic PDP executive list. And they gave the returning officer over two million naira to do their bidding. If the PDP continues like this I don’t know what will happen to the party because it is becoming very unpopular.”
“I want to use this medium to appeal to my supporters to remain very calm because I don’t want to take laws into my hands a I want to follow due process. I intend to go to National to lay my protest very seriously. Yes if I say okay let me allow my brother to lead after 12 years one town I counted over seven positions, is it not right that you bring it to my zone. You can say Peter comes and be delegate, Peter is delegate A, is not done that way. Like in Rivers State my friend contested it was done in a way that everybody was satisfied. So I have come to say that there was no primary in Burutu South Constituency.”
