AWKA—GOVERNOR Peter Obi of Anambra State has ordered all contractors, especially those handling road projects in the state, to go back to their different sites since the rainy season was over.

The governor, who spoke at Government House, Awka, said he was merely repeating the directive for emphasis, adding that he had already directed the Commissioner for Works, Mr. Callistus  Ilozumba, to formally convey  the directives to all contractors in the state.

He acknowledged the fact that work slowed down on road construction because of the rainy season, explaining that now that the rains were over, there would be no further reasons massive construction of roads  would not start in a few days.

His words: “I say few days because reports reaching me have confirmed that contractors have started going back to their sites.

“Since this involves movement of heavy equipment, it will take some days. All I ask of Anambra people is to remain calm with assurances that we are on top of the situation”
The governor said that when rains made it impossible for massive construction of roads,  his administration made it up by massive work in other sectors, adding that most on-going projects in other sectors had already been completed.

He observed that while some people were complaining of slow pace of work in the road sector, massive work was going  on in other sectors, noting that within the period under review, government had been able to complete the second phase of the state secretariat, as well as many buildings at the state University Teaching Hospital.

He also said that work had started on five new buildings at tEkwulobia  General Hospital,  while work had been completed at the Odor bridge .
