OBUDU—Governor Liyel Imoke has flagged off this quarter’s 2010 Immunization Plus Days, IPPs, Maternal New Born and Child Health Week, MNCHW, for children between zero age and 59 months and pregnant women at Obudu Ranch Resort, Obanliku Local Government Area.
Addressing health workers, pregnant women and children, Imoke, who had earlier flagged-off the sixth edition of the Obudu Mountain Race and the Second African Nations Mountain Running Championship and also witnessed its completion, urged those saddled with the exercise to ensure every child within their locality was immunized so that they will not be sick.
Imoke reminded mothers that the exercise as well as medical treatment for pregnant women and children under five years was free and that if their children fall sick, they should be taken to the hospital, where prompt attention would be given to them, advising that they should always participate in the immunization exercise and encourage others to be involved.
The Governor disclosed that the State will always encourage people to be actively involved in the programme by sponsoring it, emphasizing that it is Government’s vision to make sure that children are healthy so that they can grow up to participate in Obudu Mountain Race.
Those who joined the Governor to administer vaccines on the children include Mrs. Glory Efiok Cobham, wife of the Deputy Governor, Mr. Fidelis Ugbo, Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Edet Ikpi, Commissioner for Health and Princess Benedicta Kakwa, Chairman Obanliku Local Government Area.
