For allegedly causing the death of a 58-year-old man, a driver was yesterday docked at an Apapa Senior Magistrate’s Court for manslaughter.
The driver, Jimoh Olupo, 58, is facing a two-count charge of reckless driving and causing the death of one Mufutau Bello.
Prosecutor, Cpl. Friday Inedu, told the court that the accused drove a Toyota Hiace Bus along Badagry Expressway, Lagos, on October 25 in a reckless manner that caused the death of Bello.
He said: “The accused drove in a dangerous manner without regards to other road users, resulting in the death of the victim.”
He said the offence contravened Section 27 of Road Traffic Act (RTA) and is punishable under Regulation 103 (1) Cap 124 Vol. 6, Laws of Lagos State.
The accused pleaded not guilty. Senior Magistrate Mr. Amos Adeyemi granted the accused bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum, and adjourned the case to November 29.
