Ilorin—It was a Sallah tragedy in Ilorin, Tuesday, as four members of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, died in a stampede at a political gathering while six others were rushed to the hospital.
As at the time of filing this report, the victims were said to be recuperating at Sobi Specialist Hospital in Ilorin.
Already, Governor Bukola Saraki has paid condolence visits to the families of the deceased and visited the six other victims at the hospital.
In a condolence message to the party leadership and the bereaved families, Governor Saraki expressed shock and sorrow over the sad event, noting that the deceased would be greatly missed by both the party and their families.
He described the death of the PDP stalwarts as a painful, as well as a great loss to the state and cancelled all his official engagements as a mark of honour for the souls of the departed party faithful.
Death, he noted, was the ultimate end of all mortals as every living soul would pay the supreme price on the appointed time and date.
The governor has also sent a high powered government delegation to commiserate with the families of the four deceased persons, while government has also taken up the bills of those receiving treatment in the hospital.
Consolation
Dr. Saraki said: “Though we lost them, our consolation is that these patriots came and made their impacts in the lives of their people as their contributions to the success and achievements of the PDP-led government in the state would forever be remembered.”
He, however, prayed God to grant the repose of the deceased eternal rest and the families the fortitude to bear the loss.
